The second season of Velma has arrived, and its reception is pretty much on par with Season 1. Critics and viewers are not being too kind on Season 2 following its recent debut on Max.
After premiering on Max on April 25, Velma doesn't yet have a critics' score at Rotten Tomatoes, but it's getting lambasted by viewers, resulting in an audience score of 15%. For what it's worth, this is more than double the current Season 1 audience score of 7%, but the Season 2 score will likely fluctuate and possibly drop further as more reviews are added. Season 1 has a critics' score of 39%, and reviews from Season 2 are similarly not painting a pretty picture.

James Gunn Reveals Original Title for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Details Scrapped Third Movie
To celebrate Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed's 20th anniversary, James Gunn reveals the movie's original title and why another sequel was never made.
"Velma Season 2 is an unfocused slog that fails to improve on Season 1," one harsh review from Brittany Vincent at IGN stated, further criticizing the season's "flat jokes" and "bloated storytelling." Another review by Gary Catig at AIPT said the new season was an "improvement," but that the "biggest drawback is its unlikeable lead. She is selfish, self-centered, and judgmental."
"I gave it a .5 stars because it wouldn't let me give it any less," reads one of the many negative audience reviews at Rotten Tomatoes. Another one of the audience reviews similarly stated, "It's worse than the first but I can't give any lower than the same 1/2 star I gave the first."

Scooby-Doo Gave TV One Of Its Greatest Formulas
Scooby-Doo is a legend of TV and the original animated series helped to create some of the most popular TV formulas of all time.
Velma Season 2 Didn't Get a Lot of Marketing
The first season of Velma dropped episodes weekly, but Season 2 had all episodes released simultaneously. Season 2 also came with very little promotion from Max beyond a trailer that was released ahead of launch. The first season premiered on Jan. 12, 2023, and wrapped up on Feb. 19.
Velma was developed by Charlie Grandy, who executive produces alongside Howard Klein, Sam Register, and series star Mindy Kaling. The animated series sees Kaling voicing a Velma Dinkley variant in a universe without Scooby-Doo. The main voice cast also consists of Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones, Sam Richardson as Norville Rogers, and Constance Wu as Daphne Blake. A variety of notable guest stars have been featured, including Ming-Na Wen, Jane Lynch, Ken Leung, Melissa Fumero, and "Weird Al" Yankovic.
Both seasons of Velma can be found streaming on Max.
