Why did my credit score go from 524 to 0?
Reasons why your credit score could have dropped include a missing or late payment, a recent application for new credit, running up a large credit card balance or closing a credit card.
If you have a 0 credit score after having any credit score in the past, this would mean that you have a deceased indicator on your credit report, and you are being reported as deceased. Example: You have credit score of 542. Then, you look and it's 0. You have likely been mistakenly reported dead.
Using more of your credit card balance than usual — even if you pay on time — can reduce your score until a new, lower balance is reported the following month. Closed accounts and lower credit limits can also result in lower scores even if your payment behavior has not changed.
CIBIL Score of 0: A CIBIL Score of 0, often displayed as 'NA' or 'No Activity,' is assigned when an individual has less than six months of credit history. In other words, it means that the person has started using credit recently, and there is not enough data available to calculate a traditional credit score.
Whether or not you're accepted, 'hard' credit searches could affect your credit score, especially if you make a number of full credit applications in a short period of time. When you're approved for new credit, the average age of your accounts will drop, which might also reduce your credit score.
How long does it take to build credit from 0? It generally takes three to six months to get your first credit score, although the time it takes to build good credit is different for everyone. It depends on factors like what your credit scores are now, how you're managing debt and more.
A sudden drop in your credit score can often be explained by something you have done—or forgotten to do—such as paying your credit card bill late. If you're certain you haven't done anything to cause the drop, it's possible you've been a victim of identity theft.
Credit scores can drop due to a variety of reasons, including late or missed payments, changes to your credit utilization rate, a change in your credit mix, closing older accounts (which may shorten your length of credit history overall), or applying for new credit accounts.
Your score falls within the range of scores, from 300 to 579, considered Very Poor. A 524 FICO® Score is significantly below the average credit score. Many lenders choose not to do business with borrowers whose scores fall in the Very Poor range, on grounds they have unfavorable credit.
Having no credit is better than having bad credit, though both can hold you back. Bad credit shows potential lenders a negative track record of managing credit. Meanwhile, no credit means lenders can't tell how you'll handle repaying debts because you don't have much experience.
Can you live with a zero credit score?
It may be possible to live without credit if you aren't already borrowing through student loans, a mortgage or other debt. Even so, living credit-free can be very difficult. Tasks such as finding an apartment or financing a car can become challenging obstacles without credit.
But having no credit score can be as challenging as having a poor credit score, with downsides including: Your car insurance premiums could be higher. You may find it difficult to take out certain credit cards. You may find it difficult to get a car loan.
It's possible that you could see your credit scores drop after fulfilling your payment obligations on a loan or credit card debt. Paying off debt might lower your credit scores if removing the debt affects certain factors like your credit mix, the length of your credit history or your credit utilization ratio.
For a conventional mortgage in California, you typically need a minimum score of at least 600. If you qualify for certain government-backed loans, however, you may be able to buy a home with a score as low as 500.
You have the right to dispute information in your credit report by contacting the credit bureau on whose report the information appears. It's also a good idea to check the other credit bureaus to make sure the same information doesn't also appear on those reports.
The time it takes to raise your credit score from 500 to 700 can vary widely depending on your individual financial situation. On average, it may take anywhere from 12 to 24 months of responsible credit management, including timely payments and reducing debt, to see a significant improvement in your credit score.

The credit score required and other eligibility factors for buying a car vary by lender and loan terms. Still, you typically need a good credit score of 661 or higher to qualify for an auto loan. About 69% of retail vehicle financing is for borrowers with credit scores of 661 or higher, according to Experian.
If you're building credit from nothing, you can generally achieve some kind of credit score within three to six months. In fact, you can find yourself with a relatively decent score within a year. For example, I was able to get approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card after just one year of building my credit.
While a 0% utilization is certainly better than having a high CUR, it's not as good as something in the single digits. Depending on the scoring model used, some experts recommend aiming to keep your credit utilization rate at 10% (or below) as a healthy goal to get the best credit score.
How to fix a 524 credit score?
Reduce the amount of debt you owe
Pay off debt rather than moving it around: the most effective way to improve your credit scores in this area is by paying down your revolving (credit card) debt. In fact, owing the same amount but having fewer open accounts may lower your scores.
Credit score required: 620
Conventional loans are the most common type of mortgage, accounting for about 70% of the market. They usually require a 620 credit score, though some lenders will consider applicants with scores as low as 580.
A bad credit score is a FICO score below 580, meaning it falls in the poor credit range. Along the same lines, a bad score in the VantageScore model is one below 601, which would belong in the poor or very poor credit ranges.
If you have no credit score, there are options available specifically to help you start a credit file so you can get new credit in the future. You can get a secured credit card, a credit-builder loan, join another person's credit card account as an authorized user and more.
If you regularly pay your rent on time and in full, you can have your good payment history reported to credit bureaus to help raise your credit score through a rent-reporting service. Know that any rent-reporting services could require a fee for the service, which is usually paid on a monthly basis.
