While the puzzle itself is fairly straightforward, the location of the moths necessary to progress through the cave is not always apparent. If you’re stuck in the dark about this quest in Hogwarts Legacy, here’s what you need to do.
How to complete the Moth Tomb puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy
To complete all Moth Tomb puzzles, use the Lumos ability near moths and take them to the door. In total, there are four Moth Tomb puzzles, and the final one is the most challenging. Moths look like blue butterflies and are usually close to the door you’re trying to open. While solving Moth to the Frame puzzles, I always have Lumos on my quick cast bar so I can easily use it. The witch’s tomb moth puzzle doesn’t require you to wander as much, but you’ll have figure out how and where to take the moths.
The Helm of Urktot is a main story quest that tasks you with delving deep into an underground cavern. With the use of several magical moths, you unlock various locked doors and fend off swarms of enemies.
Helm of Urktot first moth puzzle
Upon entering The Collector’s Cave, you’re met with a locked door with two moths already in place. Even with magic, there’s no way to open this door aside from collecting and leading the moths to their designated place.
Move to the left side, and at the end of the hall, you’ll find the moth near the window.
To collect the moth, you need to cast the Lumos spell. Moths follow the spell’s light and automatically fit into the door whenever you lead them to the locked door. So, lead this moth to the door, then place it in the final socket.
After gathering this moth, the door will open and lead you to another room.
Helm of Urktot second moth puzzle
In the next room, you need to complete the same puzzle as the initial door, though now you need to collect all three moths. The first two are located on either side of the room.
The final moth is located behind a destructible wall. You can easily bring the wall down with the Depulso spell and carry the final moth to the lock with Lumos.

After opening the door, you need to complete a short combat section before encountering the next moth puzzle in the dungeon.
- Deliver one moth to the structure in the middle of the room.
- Then, stand atop the nearby elevator to the right and cast Depulso on the central structure to raise it upward.
- After reaching this moth, collect the three moths and lead each to the locked door.
- After progressing past another combat section, you will encounter this version of the moth puzzle again.
Helm of Urktot final moth puzzle
This final piece of the moth puzzle is very similar to the other puzzles. However, it’s quite complicated, so follow the steps below.
- Lead one moth to the central structure and use Depulso to propel yourself upward on the elevator.
- Two moths are located by a locked door, and you can swiftly put them in their place.
- Unlike the last version of this puzzle, the central structure lifts two elevators, one for you, and another empty holster for a moth.
- Jump back down to the ground level and go straight to pick up the final moth.
- Lead the moth to the second elevator and once again use Depulso to reach the locked door.
- Quickly run to the other side and cast Lumos to attract the final moth and complete this last puzzle.
Tip:
Pick up the final moth before the elevator goes back down. If it does, use Depulso again on the statue in the middle to get the moth back up.
This puzzle has a couple of parts that are fairly confusing, but after understanding the structure, it becomes easier. Hogwarts Legacy is filled to the brim with puzzles, and the The Helm of Urtkot is another one you can cross off your list.
