Whitewater Activities
Rentals for canoes, kayaks, rafts, and funyaks on the Cartecay River are available year round at Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions nearby in Ellijay. The Cartecay River is considered to be a good beginner and novice kayaking river with Class II and III whitewater.
Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions also provides shuttle service, guides and instruction.

You can access the Cartecay River upstream on Lower Cartecay Road and float for an hour trip, 2.1 miles, on the Cartecay River until you reach the River Majesty cabin. River Majesty offers easy in and out access to the Cartecay River. River Majesty is the beginning of the challenging rapids as you enter the s-turn. The take-out is at the Blackberry Mountain covered bridge. If you desire the challenges of the Cartecay Rapids, just put in at River Majesty and run the rapids to the Blackberry Falls covered bridge.
During the summer, when the Cartecay River may be low, tubing is a fun activity. Even when tubing, it is essential to wear a life vest.
Many opportunities are available for whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking and tubing in the North Georgia Mountains. Of course, River Majesty, is on the Cartecay River so there is no need to go far from your vacation cabin for whitewater fun. However, if you desire to seek out other rivers, you won't have to go very far.
The Ocoee River, located in Tennessee, 12 miles outside of Blue Ridge, is the site of the 1996 Olympics at the Ocoee Whitewater Center. Guided thrilling whitewater rafting trips and kayaking for the experienced on Class III and IV rapids are available. The Toccoa River in Blue Ridge becomes the Ocoee River at the Tennessee state line.
The Nantahala River is another whitewater option with about a 2 hour drive.
A short drive east to Dahlonega will take you to the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers for canoe, kayak and tubing trips with Appalachian Outfitters.
